Clare Chao

Clare Chao is a Singapore‑based freelance editor, producer and director who is currently reading Sociology at the National University of Singapore while holding a Diploma with Merit in Film, Sound & Video from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Her first taste of industry work came as a production assistant intern on the reality series Cesar’s Recruit Asia, where weeks on the road across Asia cemented a lasting curiosity about how stories move communities.

Balancing academic inquiry with creative practice, she went on to cut Leonard Yip’s neo‑noir feature, MALAM (2021), and direct the short documentary Sister of Sandakan, an intimate portrait of Malaysia’s last Anglican nun. During the pandemic, she also produced content for a digital #BraveHeartSG mental‑health toolkit and continues to develop short‑form social‑impact content. Across these projects runs a consistent through‑line: marrying sociological insight with cinematic craft to surface voices at the margins and spark conversation beyond the screen.
